AMA Estancia is currently open and accepting reservations. Our remote location and private villa model make for a restorative escape during the pandemic, and the health and safety of our guests, staff and local community is our highest priority during this time. Please visit our regularly updated health and safety page for the latest protocols in place in Panama and at AMA Estancia:
Inspired by tropical mid-century design and the wild Pacific surround, the villa is perched on the oceanfront cliffs like an ethereal gateway between land and sea. Spread over 17,000 square feet, the main house includes 6 suites and numerous indoor and outdoor living spaces that blend rustic local materials with sophisticated craftsmanship. Every element in the home has a story – the furniture has been hand-crafted by our in-house artists, and influenced by local heritage and history. From the moment you open the front door, you will feel like you belong – not only in the space, but to the great Pacific Ocean that lies before you and the lush jungle behind you. It’s the kind of space you feel comfortable lounging around in your beachwear, or suiting up for an exquisite evening of epicurean entertaining with your travel party.
The main house has 6 suites: 4 king suites and 2 additional suites, one with four beds and another with 3 beds, ideal for children or unique travel gatherings. Each suite is a private, individual structure with spacious layouts, floor to ceiling windows that offer views of either the ocean or the jungle and furniture specifically designed and crafted for each suite by our designers and local artisans.
In the common areas, each interior room is complimented by adjacent exterior spaces of the same use. This juxtaposition of indoor and out provides generously scaled rooms, which can be enjoyed throughout the day and night. A large terrace runs the southern façade of the house and shades spaces for dining, relaxing and entertaining.
The pool house is a destination within a destination: situated at the southernmost point of the property, the 25m infinity pool projects out over the Pacific, mimicking the dramatic cliffs of the coastline. The house has been designed to capture ocean views from all sides, and consists of 1 king suite, en-suite bath, a full kitchen and bar.
Situated on a pasture between the main house and the jungle reserve, the equestrian and tennis center is an adventurer’s haven that blends old-world sporting with the laid back tropical ranch life of the Azuero. Tie up the horses and stash your racket, relax in a hammock or in the breezy club after an active day. Showers, locker rooms, changing rooms and a full bar mean that you might not leave until someone summons you for dinner.
Our network of trails takes you through some of the peninsula's only remaining old-growth forest, where ancient trees are home to howler monkeys, giant iguanas and tropical birds, and onto our acres of reforestation project, where you can welcome back native species who are finding their way home thanks to our long-term reforestation project. AMA Estancia was founded on the belief that the land itself is our greatest luxury, which is why we are dedicated to restoring the native species on 67 of our 180-hectare property, and have partnered with our neighbors to form Reserva Ecologica Panamaes, a 507-hectare land reserve on 4km of coastline. Our vision is to regenerate and conserve the terrestrial, coastal and oceanic ecosystems through sustainable land management. Through dedicated forestry, scientific partnerships, and local education, we are recreating the natural corridor that once allowed biodiversity to thrive in the peninsula before farming practices destroyed it. As you explore our forest reserve, observe our protected coral and sea turtle species, lounge in furniture crafted in our wood shop, or enjoy our farm-to-table cuisine, you’re helping us take steps towards ensuring a ‘net zero’ footprint on this rare tropical paradise. Situated on a secluded oceanfront estate with no neighbors in sight, you could easily spend a week just swimming, sunning and listening to the waves crash...but you won’t want to. The wild ocean cliffs and call of the howler monkeys from the jungle inspires a bit of adventure in even the most dirt-adverse traveler -- and our full-service equestrian and tennis center means that you won’t exactly be roughing it as you set out to explore the forest and coastline by horseback.
The Azuero Peninsula is one of the first sites of human settlement in Panama by the indigenous centuries ago, followed by Spanish colonists who carved out tropical ranch life in paradise, and even the US Navy had a base here -- it’s as if the whole biological and cultural history of Panama can be found right here on our stunning strip of land and sea. This land continues to capture the hearts of both visitors and locals to this day, and it is the founding mission of AMA Estancia to provide an exceptional guest experience while positively impacting the local community and ecology.
Our team of international and local designers, artists, chefs, wilderness guides, farmers, environmentalists and hotel team is passionate about living and working at AMA Estancia to continuously craft one of the most unique travel experiences in the world. Through the requests and pursuits of our guests, we are constantly creating -- be it a new trail, ingredient, piece of furniture, or a new species we welcome back to our reforestation project. At AMA Estancia, you will experience personalized luxury that will not only restore your spirit, but that benefits the land and local people who inspire all that we do.
